Beyond providing qualified professional services, the underlying goal in founding Carvel & Helm Design Group was to define a recognizable Newfoundland & Labrador design identity through our work, and create opportunities for integrating artworks of local craftspeople and artists in interior spaces.
This mission inspired the creation of our newly founded sister-studio Second Empire Surfaces - a design studio creating and curating interior surfaces and objects. The cohesion of these two ventures allows Second Empire Surfaces to focus on producing tangible design based on the group’s original concepts.
Operating from our shared NL Headquarters with direction from our lead interior designers and pattern specialists, we’ll be creating and printing wallcovering in house, specifying glazes, pairing artwork selections, and building collections with a fine-art approach.
