Intermediate Interior Designer
Carvel & Helm Design Group is a boutique design firm located in St. John’s, NL. We have an opening in our studio for an experienced interior designer. Working with and under the direction of the Partners, this individual will play a key role in the development of interior designs for projects ranging from residential to large scale commercial buildings.
Candidates should exhibit strong design skills and the ability to contribute to a dynamic and creative office. They will be responsible for developing design concepts working through the creative & development phases of projects to provide the highest quality of design & service to our clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS
Lead client communication both in person and virtually, to facilitate new and ongoing project work.
Facilitate meetings with the design team to develop and communicate design ideas through sketching, drawings, and modelling.
Production of Schematic, Concept & Design Development sketches and presentations, finish and material samples boards, including schedules & specifications required for Construction Documentation.
Document design meetings (meeting minutes) and issue action items.
Provide detailed markups to an architectural technologist to translate design intent into detailed construction drawings.
Source & refine interior finishes, lighting & plumbing fixtures, accessories, and other items required for the execution of the project.
Interface with sub-consultants, contractors and the design team to communicate design intent while maintaining project schedule & budget.
Selection of furniture, fixtures & equipment for specification & procurement.
Providing construction contract administration through performing site visits, taking site photos, reviewing submittals, issuing written and draft documentation, and performing closeout project tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
This position requires a Bachelor of Interior Design (BID) from a CIDA accredited program offered by a post-secondary institution, and NCIDQ certification.
Proficiency with the latest software, Revit, SketchUp & Adobe InDesign.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in an architectural or interior design firm
Knowledge of commercial and/or residential project constructibility, project costs, and code requirements.
